Diamond Phoenix - Coaching Positions

Diamond Phoenix Dragon Boat Club invites expressions of interest from suitably experienced and motivated women for our Coaching Team for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 dragon boat seasons. The coaching team will guide and train both competitive, semi-competitive and recreational paddlers, while maintaining and fostering our ‘strong cohesive club spirit’.

Diamond Phoenix is a Canberra club consisting of women of all ages and fitness levels, established in 2006. The Club trains three times a week in the warmer months and at least once a week all year around.

The focus of the team is to encourage women’s participation in team sport in a friendly and supportive environment. The club aims to participate competitively in ACT regattas, interstate regattas, and at the Australian and Masters’ Championships while also providing paddling opportunities for members who do not wish to compete.

Diamond Phoenix are looking to expand their current Coaching Team of two, to include a Head Coach, Assistant Coach/Coaches and Coaching Support positions. This growth reflects our increased paddler numbers and aims to ensure our coaches are well-supported and equipped to deliver the level of training and guidance that is required.

Applicants who are interested in this opportunity should have:

·         current ANCAS coaching accreditation  

·         experience in competing and coaching a team 

·         the ability to work in a positive and respectful manner with individual members, crews and other coaches 

·         the ability to work cooperatively with the Executive Committee to further the objectives of the Club

·         a willingness to play a key role in the development of trainee coaches from within the club including supporting on-water and on-land trainee coaching as well as formal course aspects of trainee coaching

·         a good understanding, or willingness to obtain a good understanding, of modern dragon boating coaching methods 

·         effective leadership qualities and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
