Published Wed 10 Nov 2021

On-site experiences

  • Finish line beach area with bean bags, umbrellas and lounge chairs
  • Giant TV
  • Live music, entertainers, food trucks and vendor displays
  • Pop up bar on Sunday

Teams: ‘World Cup’ themed racing as per 2021

  • Clubs are invited to enter a ‘fixed mixed’ team of up to 28 paddlers (including sweeps, drummers and emergencies) in an age category – Premier, Senior (40-54) or Senior (55+)
  • Composite crews are also permitted from across clubs, states or countries (they can be outriggers, kayakers – as long as they can be covered for insurance, using a Dragon Pass or being a paid-up member of a dragon boating club affiliated with AUSDBF
  • As this is a World Cup style event numbers per category are limited
  • As in 2021, some flexibility will be available enabling some ‘out of age’ participation in the Senior age categories, using the Victorian by-laws. Our goal is to make it easier to build teams, increase participation and improve the quality of racing
  • All paddlers must be entered on their team list at the start of the competition. The crew list remains the same over the three days
  • Teams compete in both Mixed 20s and Open and Womens 10s crews in races across four distances - 100m, 200m relay, 500m and 1km pursuit race
  • Points are awarded to every team in each race based on their times. The Southern Cross Cup winner in each category is based on the team with the most points over their four race categories.
  • Maximum two teams per club, per category

Cost per team

  • $2,250 (excluding GST)* which equates to under $30 per paddler, per day for a full team
  • Clubs are limited to a maximum of two teams per category.

*It is recognised that the costs for the 2022 event are higher than in 2021. In 2021 AusDBF was able to provide a generous contribution to the event due to the fact there wasn’t an AusChamps in 2021.

  • Payment will be in 30% and 70% instalments as outlined below
  • Payments will be refunded less a 15% fee in the event of a COVID-19 related incident preventing participation or event cancellation due to any reason
  • Any cancellations after the registration closes will incur a cancellation fee of the 30% first payment

Medals and awards

  • All participants winning a place in each race category receive an event medal
  • Winning teams in the Premier, Senior 40-54 and 55+ categories awarded the 'Southern Cross Cup'
